Never Have I Ever: 120 clean questions for families and friends

Never Have I Ever is one of the easiest games to get going: one person reads a card, and everyone who has done it raises a hand. Here are 120 statements that work for kids, families and friends, and the fun part is the stories that come out afterward. This version is completely clean, and you only tell the story if you feel like it.

The games

Hands up

3-20 players, 10-30 min, Ages 6+

  1. One person reads a card out loud, like "Never have I ever slept in a tent."
  2. Everyone who has done it raises a hand.
  3. Anyone who has done it can tell a quick story about it, if they want to.
  4. The person on the reader's left reads the next card.

Tip: You can always pass. A raised hand is enough, and a story is a bonus.

The points version

3-15 players, 20 min, Ages 7+

  1. Everyone starts at zero with a pen and paper.
  2. If you've done what the card says, you give yourself a point.
  3. After 20 cards, add up the points.
  4. The person with the most points tells the best story from their list.

Tip: Flip it so the lowest score wins. Then it's fun to be the one who's never tried anything.

Ten fingers

3-12 players, 15 min, Ages 8+

  1. Everyone holds up ten fingers.
  2. If you've done what the card says, you put one finger down.
  3. Whoever has the most fingers left when the cards run out wins.

Tip: Play with five fingers if you're short on time.

Write your own

4-15 players, 20 min, Ages 10+

  1. Everyone writes a statement about something they've never done, but think the others have.
  2. Shuffle the slips and read them out one at a time.
  3. The writer gets a point for every hand that goes up.
  4. At the end, the table guesses who wrote which slip.

Guess the hands

4-12 players, 15 min, Ages 8+

  1. Before anyone moves, the person reading the card guesses how many hands will go up.
  2. Then everyone who has done it raises a hand.
  3. Guess right and you get a point and read again.

The family version

4-20 players, 20 min, All ages

  1. Pick cards that both kids and grandparents can play along with.
  2. The youngest reads the first card, or gets help from a grown-up.
  3. When a grandparent raises a hand, they have to tell everyone what it was like back then.

Tip: Great for family gatherings where the generations don't know each other's stories.
